Return To Football Update

The committee is working hard behind the scenes to allow the club to return to football in line with the guidelines provided by Football Queensland (FQ), found here:https://footballqueensland.com.au/return-to-football/.

At a recent FQ information session with clubs they advised that in-line with Queensland Government direction, the primary focus points of the guidelines are to allow training to commence, while:
  • Fulfilling social distancing measures
  • Limiting mass gatherings
  • Enabling contact tracing

FQ announced on the weekend, "In accordance with FQ's Return to Training guidelines, clubs who are Stage 2 prepared and in a state of readiness, may commence training sessions for up to 20 people per venue".

We understand everyone is raring to go and keen to get running around on the park. However, as a committee, we need to ensure all necessary protocols are in place first in order for this to occur.

Until the committee advises otherwise, all playing fields at Westside Grovely remain CLOSED.

We ask for your continued patience and understanding. Further updates will be provided as soon as possible.

COVID-19 Update: 25th May

An update from the Westside Grovely Committee:

We are currently working on our return to football in line with the guidelines provided by Football Queensland.

Our next committee meeting to discuss this will take place on Thursday 28th May; we will be reviewing the guidelines and assessing how Westside Grovely will comply.

Please note that all playing fields at Westside Grovely are CLOSED.

“The Queensland Government has made it clear that no indoor or outdoor formal organised individual or team community sport or training will be permitted in Stage 1 of the roadmap to easing restrictions.

“This means that no football or futsal activity is to occur until Stage 2 commences on June 12, when non-contact activity will be permitted for up to 20 people and clubs may resume training sessions as per FQ’s Return to Training guidelines."

While the authorities have advised the up to 20 people may return to training at once, this number is per venue, not per team. This means that as a committee we will need to decide when & how teams can return to training in Stage 2 of the roadmap.

We thank you for your understanding and will provide further updates as soon as possible.

In line with advice received today from Football Queensland (FQ) the suspension of the season and all football activities will be extended until 30 June 2020.
Football Federation Australia (FFA) has indicated they will review the current situation on 31 May 2020 which will provide us with adequate lead time to determine whether a return on the 30 June remains viable.
Football Brisbane will take into account the circumstances and government advice at that time to enable clubs to resume operations prior to the season commencing.

*** COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update ***

With the unfolding COVID-19 developments, we will be suspending all Club activity until further notice.

The Football Brisbane Board of Directors are holding a meeting this evening and will be providing advice for all Clubs tomorrow.

Despite communication from the FFA advising that the A-League and W-League will continue and that the lower levels may continue with enhanced hygiene protocols, we as a Committee believe it is in our members best interest to suspend all Club activities until further notice.

We are closing the playing fields at Grovely Sports Ground during this time - this means there is no training, matches, or events at this stage including the upcoming trivia night.

While we are saddened by this turn of events, the health and safety of our members comes first.

Thank you for your understanding - we will provide updates as soon as possible so please keep an eye on the facebook group and website.

Yours faithfully,

Sean Grady
Club President
